Fellow Skålleagues

A message from Skål International, Washington DC President,

Andres Hayes

Let us not underestimate the power of Skål!

Dear Skalleagues,

Last month Morgan and I had to privilege to represent our Club during the 2018 World Congress that was held in Mombasa Kenya.  During the congress we were able to meet and interact with other skalleagues from around the world and it is very interesting that after so many years there are members that do not understand that  Skål is an International organization and that the memberships are beyond our local clubs.  Let us not forget that  one of the advantages of our membership is the access to the International Membership Database and we can use it to reach out to other members when traveling for either local business guidance or most valuable FRIENDSHIP.  We all travel extensively, and I encourage once again  that on your next trip find out if there is a club in the city that you are visiting and reach out to that club

During the congress Morgan celebrated her birthday and during the Gala Dinner she and the VP of the NYC Club were serenated  by the hotel employees and presented with a birthday cake.

Skål Scholars

During the week of October 29th, we successfully  completed the 2018 Washington DC Club Skål Scholars Program and I am excited to report that 7 students from the following academic venues:  George Washington University, Carlos Rosario International Charter School and Georgetown University took advantage of the program.   I would like to  thank our 2018  Mentors, David Roubie, Mariana Lutz, Barry Biggar, Bill Moyer, Carol Betz, Chad Manhertz, Kristi Pruitt and Brian Kelleher.   A special thank you to Chamath Ganepola for being the organizer of this year program.

Recruitment Event

On November 12, the embassy of Uzbekistan hosted our second membership recruitment event.  During the event our Past President James Enright and Bill Moyer delivered a presentation where they described the benefits of joining our organization and 3 of the guests showed interest.  Thanks again to our good friends from Uzbekistan for hosting us also for the delicious food.

Our next events are November 28th at Carlos Rosario International Charter School – Sonia Gutierrez Campus, were the students from the Culinary Program will delight us  with a nice Mediterranean menu.  As you all know we presented a scholarship check for higher education for the amount of $2,000 to one of the culinary students Ms. Nancy Irias and she will be attending and she would like to thank as many members as possible.

For our holiday party we are going back to the historic Tabard Inn for another evening of celebration and comradery.  Please make sure you wear your ugliest holiday sweater or a holiday costume and there will be a great prize for the winner of each category.

Congratulations to the new Elected Board for 2019
