Fellow Skålleagues

A message from Skål International, Washington DC President,

James J. Enright

I asked myself recently what is Skål all about and why I volunteer to be on the board and play an active part in Skål International Washington DC. The answer came easily; the benefits of volunteering within our Travel Industry organizations are primarily the contacts that one makes and fosters through social gatherings with business connections, and being part of a club that makes a difference in our TI community here in the DC area.

The intangible benefits alone, such as pride, satisfaction and accomplishment, are worthwhile reasons to serve. In addition, when we share our time and talents we:

• Hope to Solve Problems
• Strengthen our Skål DC Community
• Connect to Others- Sharing ideas
• Transform Our Own and other DC Skålleagues lives for the better.

Volunteering to be on the board at Skål DC is a fun and easy way to engage with members who share the same interests and passions as I do.  Doing volunteer work at Skål DC is meaningful and interesting to me, but can be a relaxing, energizing escape from my day-to-day routine.  Volunteering also provides me with renewed creativity, motivation, and vision that can carry over into my daily live.

This year, we will need many volunteers at Skål DC, as we have a busy year ahead with IPW visiting DC for the first time on June 3-7. Barry Biggar, who Chairs the IPW sub-committee, will be very interested in anyone being part of this historic event.

I want to thank those who volunteer their time and commitment to Skål DC and look forward to having more members join us. Let me know if you are available to volunteer.

Special thanks to Laura Schofield, GM at The Westin Washington DC City Center for the wonderful January dinner. We had a great turnout. See you at The Fairmont Washington on February 22nd

Recent Happenings of our DC Skålleagues

Prior to President Trump's arrival in DC,  senior SIUSA Representative, Bill Moyer, felt it necessary to inspect the new Trump Hotel in the Old Post Office building. We understand that he found the hotel  to be "fit for a president"  and gave it an 'excellent' grade!

Bill, seen here, decked-out in his traditional festive attire, with his friends Bob Bushman and Gary Brown and Trump Hotel Managing Director, Michael Demlencourt.

Skål Event Registration:

We’ve made some recent changes to our Registration process, offering a better price to those members who early-register and pre-pay by the specified date. This Category (Early Bird) is listed as the first option on the Registration Menu. If payment is not received by our Exec Secretary by the cut-off date, the registration will revert to the regular membership price.

When you register online, please logon, using the email  address that you've registered with Skal. Without the correct identification, the website will not recognize you as a member.

We do accept up to three “Prospective Members” as non-paying guests each month; every member being entitled to invite one prospective member. The three chosen will be an a first-come basis. If you have such a guest, please contact the chair of the Industry Category that the Prospective Member represents, with the Guest's Name, Work Position, email address and telephone number. (All Board Member emails and telephone numbers are listed on the Website under the Board Members tab.) The Board Member will then present the Prospective Member to the Membership Chair, who will  verify the eligibility, enter the Guest in the system and confirm the reservation, assuming "Prospective Member" allotment is not already filled and that the candidate qualifies as a Skål Member.

Skålleague Shane Krige, GM of The Fairmont Washington, where we'll be meeting later this month, has recently announced  completion of $27m renovation plans!
